Terminal D Fire Alarm System Evaluation

MPO Solutions led the professional engineering evaluation of DFW Airport's Terminal D Fire Alarm System, delivering an assessment of the system's current condition, known deficiencies, and upgrade pathways. The work established the technical basis to enhance life safety, achieve code compliance, and improve integration with the terminal's smoke evacuation, lower-level ventilation, and roadway smoke evacuation systems, equipping DFW with a clear roadmap to modernize one of the most safety-critical systems serving Terminal D.

Work performed included on-site visual evaluation of the existing fire alarm system, data collection on system components, and interviews with ETAM QC technicians, external maintenance providers, and building personnel. Key services included code analysis against NFPA 72 and DFW-accepted local codes, a risk assessment to prioritize upgrade needs, development of conceptual design alternatives addressing technology options, system architecture, and integration with other building systems, along with capital and O&M cost estimates and a feasibility analysis. Findings, recommendations, cost estimates, and supporting drawings were consolidated into a comprehensive report deliverable prepared in the QUIRE format.
